Why do we make the nutritional choices that we do?

Most of our decision making process regarding what is healthy, is based on the information that is circulating through social media and the general population.

The hard truth is that while we are following what is right for another persons’ body, we are rarely make informed decisions about what our individual body requires.

The issues that occur within our body are because when we fuel it, we ignore our individual design.  We have a unique design and the solution is to determine what our body requires on an individual basis and to fuel it correctly.

At Medical Powerhouse we use evidence based methods to assess and prescribe the correct nutrients for your body.  This will support and assist you as an individual and provide you with the facts and knowledge on how to build health.

Build health according to you body design and discover a happier and healthier you!

Why do we make the nutritional choices that we do?

Most of our decision making process regarding what is healthy, is based on the information that is circulating through media and the general population.

The hard truth is that while we are following what is right for another persons’ body, we are rarely make informed decisions about what our individual body requires.

The most simple way to explain it is to consider the process of combustion in a motor vehicle.  This is the process that produces energy to power the vehicle.

Although we have a much more complex process within our digestive system, we burn fuel to create energy for valuable life processes.

Consider this: How would a Mercedes engine operate if it were fuelled and driven like a Jeep? It would be a very expensive mistake and it simply would ruin the motor!

The issues that occur within our body are because when we fuel it, we ignore the individual design.  We have a unique design and the solution is to determine what our body requires on an individual basis and to fuel it correctly.

Our underpinning philosophy is to honour each person on an individual basis. We assess and prescribe the correct measures to support and assist individuals to build health, according to their own magnificent design!

Feeling Stiff – Are you turning to bone?

calcifictendonitis_xray stosswelle_vorher

You are not turning to bone BUT your body does react to the constant pressure that it is under.

The role of the skeletal muscular system is to provide support and movement through joints.  To achieve this most of our muscles cross over a joint and are joined to the bones at either ends by tendons.

Tendons are structures that allows some stretch but they have receptors which create a reflex and pull the muscle back from over stretching.  These tendons join the muscle to the bone at either end, with the joint placed somewhere in-between.  When a load is applied the muscle does work and applies a tensile force against the load. When the tensile force exceeds the load, we have movement!

The nature of this load, gravity is also a load against the body, means the body is always at work.  Whether it be making small adjustments for postural changes or for larger explosive movements, there is always load against the body.

The body has mechanisms that provide nutrition for our tissues and turn them so they remain healthy.  Quite often though our body makes the best decisions on one hand but it is detrimental on the other.  It’s a catch twenty-two!

Here is why we end up with Calcified Tendons:

  •   The load is constant and excessive and the body lays down bone matrix over the tendon to adjust to the extra strain.  This is literally so that the tendon stays attached to the bone.

The upside to this is that the tendon is reinforced with the additional bone matrix but the downside is that the tendon is now not as subtle and elastic. Over time these deposits build up and this limits our range of movement of the joint.  This can give you the feeling of being stiff, as the joints are not able to have a free and mobile range.

However, there are also some other issues that are taking place here that often get overlooked!

The skeletal muscle works in a very complex way so let’s keep it simple.  The contractile components of the muscle fibres operate on calcium reservoirs that influence binding sites to shorten your muscles and when the calcium is flushed out they allow them to lengthen.  What occurs is that we are constantly stimulating these reservoirs to release calcium and this results in muscles that have only ever half relaxed.  See the calcium need to be flushed away from the binding sites so that they let go and relax back to a natural state.  It is like extending your arm but you realise it still has tension in the muscle ready to flex it again.

What happens is we are completely overactive and never completely relax.  Most people do not even get enough sleep to relax and allow the body to flush out the excess calcium from the flood gates being open.  We have muscles that are over tensile as they are not fully relaxed before getting another signal and the calcium to contract.

There is now pooling of calcium in the muscles and incomplete relaxation of the muscle, combined with the strain of added load to the tendons and the calcium also being used to strengthen the tendons.  Our joints are supposed to be fluid and freely mobile.  Does this make you feel tight and contracted, rather than mobile? Of course it does!

How do we combat this?

It is part of our design and the way of the world at the moment so it is a little difficult to get the much needed rest.

We are mostly magnesium deficient and this also combats the excess calcium! Yes, as simple as increasing your magnesium exposure.  What is meant by this is that it should be in our water, rubbed on after a shower and in our foods.

There is an outstanding machine that we have introduced that works on both the calcium deposits in the muscle fibres as well as the calcium on the tendons.  We have introduced this therapy into our repertoire as it is safe, effective, quick and it provides a solution to immobile joints.

Our aim, as always, is to release calcium build up to mobilise joints and to allow muscles to return to a completely relaxed position ready for full and complete activation.

Feel Good Wave Therapy

painrelief_shockwave
Extracorpeal Shockwave Therapy

Finding a relief for pain that is non-pharmaceutical and long-lasting is virtually impossible.  With our busy lifestyles we have no time to rest and recover.  We look for immediate results with no or next to no recovery time.

I mean really, who has downtime these days?

The science behind this technology can be best described that it is a high energy, low frequency sound wave that penetrates deep into the tissues of the body.  The dense tissues such as dense connective tissues, tendons and muscular tissue respond to the impact of the shockwave.  This is a very medium, stimulation sensation and there should be no pain when receiving the treatment.  The bone responds by laying down new bone and removing the old, calcified bone tissue.  This calcification also occurs in the moveable parts of our body, making them immobile.

The Electro Shock Wave Therapy (EWST) sounds like it is painful but it is not at all!  Is stimulates your body to bring growth factors to the site of treatment and your body heals itself.  You literally turn over new tissues and repair the old worn out ones.  You will increase mobility and stretch in the areas treated.

The science is there to back this medical grade treatment as is the testing and the results speak for themselves.

There is not much this machine can not do!

We are offering a FREE TRIAL – Normally valued at $99

It is risk free and you will get instant pain relief.

What does pH mean for me?

What Is a Urine pH Level Test?

Many diseases, your diet and the medicines you take can affect how acidic or basic your urine is. For instance, results that are either too high or low can indicate the likelihood that your body will form kidney stones. If your urine is at an extreme on either the low or high end of pH levels, you can adjust your diet to reduce the likelihood of painful kidney stones.

It is also a pre-curser for other issues such as arthritis, cancer and many other disease states.

In short, your urine pH is an indicator of your overall health and gives your practitioner important clues as to what’s going on in your body.

How do I check this?

You can buy a urine or saliva testing kit from a health food store.  It will give you the ability to test over a time-frame.  Remembering to only compare tests done in the same way.  i.e. If you test midstream at 10am, test the same way for 2-3 time in a week and compare the result.

What is a normal reading?

In a pH balanced body the urine is slightly acid in the morning (pH = 6.5 – 7.0).  In health people, it generally becomes more alkaline (pH = 7.5 – 8.0) by the evening.  This is primarily because no food or beverages are consumed while sleeping.
